Caroll Masevhe, the passionate heart of Kapcor Construction

Passion for construction led entrepreneur Caroll Masevhe to start Kapcor Construction in 2012, with a view to not only providing quality services in the Civil Engineering Sector, but also in creating jobs and encouraging empowerment for others.

Inspired by her mother, an entrepreneur selling indigenous traditional food in Venda, Caroll began her journey working on the Quality Assurance System at a construction company in Gauteng.

In just two years of operation, Kapcor Construction now employs eight fulltime staff members and offers curb installation, paving, concrete drainage systems and landscaping, with plans afoot to add road-marking to the company’s services.

Based at 937 Brickfields, Cnr Ntemi Piliso and Gwigwi Mwrebi roads in Newtown Johannesburg, Caroll is enthusiastic about her business: “It has been so exciting because there is something new to learn every day, with both personal and business growth being part of the excitement. Innovation and new trends and services within the sector has also been an amazing part of our journey.”

Kapcor Construction’s business model includes ensuring the company administration keeps up with current best practice and trends, while growing slowly but steadily.

“Our vision is for Kapcor Construction to be a leader in the provision of quality construction services in the infrastructure sector throughout the country and abroad, growing the market and increasing sales with good innovation skills.”

To overcome the early challenges of raising capital, registering the company and creating a brand, Caroll took every opportunity to learn and network, including attending events and courses in the construction sector, and signing up this year at Wits Business School to study New Venture Creation in Entrepreneurship.

When a friend told her about the Property Point programme, Caroll jumped at the chance to participate: “I applied to the programme because I wanted to be part of an Enterprise Development Programme so I could get proper coaching around the daily operations of my business.”

Now actively sourcing business from both the private and government sectors, Caroll says her aim is to “build a sustainable company that will not only benefit my family but the community at large”.

“I want to break the mould of only men running successful construction companies. I am one of the women who will bring change into the industry to create sustainable jobs and help to stabilise the economy while I’m at it.”
